This is absolutely okay! It can always feel daunting to start therapy as you have likely heard so many different things about it. You are not alone in the process, and your therapist will be there every step of the way to ensure you are heard and supported.
Most people feel anxious when they start therapy, however, when they are in good hands, it can be one of the most life-changing aspects of their lives. We are committed to helping you change your life.

The first intake session is nothing like your regular therapy experience because it serves as more of an orientation. You learn about Fruits of Freedom Counseling’s process along with the policies of the practice.
This session has an extended period of questions and areas of conversation to cover in order to gain a clearer depiction of your life’s history, background, and the obstacles at hand. It will feel more like a gentle interview with open dialogue throughout. You will answer more questions than a typical therapy session.

Therapy does not work unless you do. You cannot expect the process to work if you are only doing work in sessions and not applying it to your active life experiences. You are expected to complete homework and life experiment assignments to determine what areas still need growth and what areas you are progressing in.
Therapy takes dedication, commitment, and a willingness to step outside of your comfort zone. It is exhilarating when you start seeing the changes in your life.

There are many factors that will help you determine this. One aspect to consider is how quickly you want to address the problem. If it is something you want to change sooner than later, then more regular sessions make sense.
Another aspect to consider is budget. Our goal is to support you and not hinder you. Session frequency will depend on how much you want to budget each month for therapy.
Finally, the situation varies depending on what you are experiencing. Some matters may require more time for you to reflect and act outside of the session in order to move forward in therapy. Therefore, there may be longer time gaps between your sessions. Some situations require intensive work, and it may make sense for you to attend in shorter time gaps.

There is no set time length of therapy. However, the goal is to get you out of a place of treatment into a place of maintenance. Your therapy experience will vary based on your unique needs, changing variables, and your impact on the process.

Group therapy sessions are framed with three areas in mind: Education, Processing, and Practice. Groups are small in size to allow for sharing and openness. They are often held for a set number of sessions at the same day and time each week. These sessions range from 60-120 minutes long.
Group therapy sessions are billed per session and require attendance to at least 90% of sessions in that group series.
-
It is required that you cancel or reschedule sessions at least 24 hours in advance. Should you fail to cancel at least 24 hours in advance more than two times, you will be charged the full amount of the session missed. This means that you have two “passes” for circumstances that may cause you to cancel last minute.
You can cancel or reschedule sessions in the Client Portal 24 hours a day.
In rare instances, sessions may be canceled or rescheduled by the provider as well at least 24 hours before your session.
-
Self-pay requires that you have a card for us to keep on file for sessions. The card is billed either right after sessions are completed or within the day. If there is an issue with billing, you will be contacted immediately to ensure payment is finalized.
You can change the card on file at any time by accessing your Client Portal.

With self-payment for treatment, you have more control over your mental health experience. Insurance often requires reporting of client diagnosis information, which can impact the privacy of your information. Self-pay allows you to be in control.
Here are additional benefits:
You are not limited by service providers in a set insurance network. You can choose the therapist that fits your desires. You get to truly access the best care for you.
You are able to schedule as many or as few sessions as you want with no policies on session totals.
You have the ability to submit a superbill to your insurance company if they accept this, which could lead to some reimbursement (varies by provider). Note that providers may not accept the Registered Mental Health Intern status for superbills due to insurance limitations, so please confirm with your provider on their regulations.

Therapy has many benefits, but here are a few:
It helps you unravel the chaos of life by taking it one thread at a time.
There is a therapeutic approach backed by science to help get you from point A to B in your journey.
You have the support of an unbiased professional who can help you review your life from various perspectives.
You receive unconditional positive regard and empathy throughout your process.
You drive your entire journey as therapy is built off of your therapeutic goals.
Diagnosis and/or validation of symptoms helps bring clarity to treatment.
Most importantly, therapy is about creating freedom. It is about discovering the things that do not serve you and accessing the things that serve you well.
